"A Most Chaotic Cult"

Films: Equinox (1970)

Alias: Asmodeus, Demon Mollusk, Demon Ape, Cave Demon

Type: Mystical

Location: Forest

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of an average human to that of a small plane.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: The barrier between good and evil remains somewhere where no one hopefully finds it. The book that explains it all is a tome no one should read. The wild power of the forces of evil stirs evermore, and it’s only a matter time before it's found again.

History: Long ago, Dr. Arthur Waterman delved into the occult when he came across an ancient tomb describing the ways of Asmodeus, the Devil. He found that he was biting off more than he could chew, as proven by him summoning a giant mollusk-like demon. Years later, a quartet of folks stumbled across his findings, and unfortunately for them, Asmodeus and his demons were eager to get their hands on that book.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: The demon ape is impaled through the chest by a spear, and Asmodeus is repelled by a gigantic cross at a cemetery before exploding. Of course, the spirit of Death itself promises that the survivor will die in a year and a day, which just might happen when a previously dead one comes towards his asylum on that date...

Powers/Abilities: Asmodeus can shapeshift into a human.

Weakness: Anything conventional, religious symbols act as a repellent at worst, and a weapon at best.

Scariness Factor: .5-Props for the creativity on display, but something's a bit off about the stop-motion models used. They seem like something that came out of "Jack the Giant Killer" with their mix of realism and cartoonish looks. In fact, the guy behind that film worked a bit on this one too! The exception is the cave demon, who's big and powerful, but doesn't do a whole lot.

Trivia: -Some say that this was the film that inspired "The Evil Dead".

-This film was also known as "The Beast" and "The Equinox...A Journey into the Supernatural".
